Benchmark data emerging from Geekbench's single-core testing points to meaningful generational CPU performance gains from Apple's latest A20 processor this year.

To provide broader perspective, comparisons have been drawn with Apple's latest M5 computer processors, Qualcomm's current Snapdragon Elite X2 laptop chip, and AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 desktop processor. The picture becomes less favorable when measured against the Asus Zephyrus G16 2024 laptop, which houses an AMD Ryzen AI HX 370 processor. That machine's Geekbench 6 results of approximately 2,800 in single-threaded and 14,500 in multi-threaded tests fall well short of Apple's new smartphone chip in single-threaded performance, though it manages to preserve some ground by posting roughly 1,800 more points in multi-threaded benchmarks.

Apple will commence pre-orders for its new A20-equipped iPhones in the near term, with consumer availability set for Friday, September 18. Review embargoes typically lift several days ahead of the retail launch date, meaning a fuller collection of benchmark results and performance assessments from established testing sources should emerge within the coming week.
