The global registry now holds more than one million domain names ending in .ai. Musk responded affirmatively on September 4 to a query about whether his company would adopt the new terminology, stating in an X post, "Yes, we will make that change." The SpaceX chief executive had previously signaled his support for the rebranding effort, declaring, "No more AI. SI. It's better," and accompanying the message with an image from Nick Bostrom's work titled "Superintelligence."

On September 29, 2026, President Donald Trump formalized the shift by signing an executive order at a White House gathering known as the "Super Intelligence Luncheon." The administration contended that the word "artificial" carries misleading connotations of inauthenticity, whereas "super intelligence" more accurately conveys the scope and capabilities of the technology. Multiple departments within the federal government have already begun implementing this nomenclature change.
