Gigabyte's 1000GM PG5 1000W Supply Targets Mainstream Enthusiasts With Platinum Efficiency

Gigabyte Technology has been a familiar name to PC builders for decades since its 1986 founding in Taipei, establishing itself as a dominant force in motherboards and graphics cards while building the AORUS brand into a mainstay of the enthusiast community. The company's venture into power supplies represents a newer and smaller business segment. Like most PC manufacturers, Gigabyte does not produce its own PSUs in-house; instead, the company partners with established OEMs to source platforms, which it then rebadges under the UD, P-series, and AORUS product lines. The quality of these offerings has fluctuated throughout the years, ranging from excellent performers to units that fell short of expectations, making the underlying OEM and the intended market segment more significant than the brand name printed on the chassis.

Gigabyte's Gaming GM PG5 lineup represents the company's latest push into the upper-mainstream power supply market, with the 1000W variant serving as an evolution of the well-regarded UD1000GM PG5 model. HEC, a veteran Taiwanese OEM, manufactures the unit. The power supply meets the requirements of both ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 specifications and incorporates a native 12V-2x6 connector, a 135 mm fluid dynamic bearing fan, and, according to Gigabyte, capacitors sourced entirely from Japanese manufacturers.
