Custom power distributor mod tackles RTX 5090 connector overheating problem
A Reddit modder has designed a custom power distribution module to address thermal issues with Nvidia's RTX 5090 graphics card, claiming it could be offered with full warranty coverage through a partner channel.

A Reddit user operating under the handle u/DallasGrave has unveiled a workaround for the RTX 5090's problematic 12VHPWR connector, which has been prone to overheating. The solution takes the form of a custom-engineered power distributor module that mounts to the rear of the card and redistributes electrical current across additional wires, thereby reducing the thermal stress on the connector itself. According to posts shared online, u/DallasGrave is affiliated with GRAVEPC.com, a company specializing in custom cooling systems designed for compact PC builds.
When asked whether the modification would maintain coverage under PNY's warranty terms, u/DallasGrave responded: "We're a PNY partner. You'll be able to buy a PNY-specific card with a similar modification directly from us with a full warranty." The modified cards are not yet available for purchase on the company's website. However, PNY's track record with warranty claims related to the 12VHPWR issue has been inconsistent, particularly in cases involving third-party power cables, which suggests caution may be warranted regarding the warranty guarantee claim.
