iBuyPower Slate RTX 5060 PC drops to $899 at Best Buy, undercutting Steam Machine
Best Buy has slashed $500 off the iBuyPower Slate Gaming Desktop, bringing the Ryzen 5 and RTX 5060 system to $899—cheaper and more capable than Valve's Steam Machine.

Building a gaming PC from scratch has become increasingly difficult as component costs climb, driven by shortages affecting memory, storage and graphics cards. Prebuilt systems offer one path around these inflated prices. At Best Buy, the iBuyPower Slate Gaming Desktop is currently available for $899, down $500 from its standard $1,399 price tag, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious gamers.
The machine centers on an AMD Ryzen 5 8400F processor—a six-core, twelve-thread chip with a 65W TDP that balances efficiency with adequate 1080p gaming performance. Graphics come from an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060, which handles 1080p workloads and marks an entry point into Nvidia's Blackwell generation, bringing support for multi-frame generation and DLSS 5.

Memory consists of a single 16GB DDR5 module clocked at 4,800MT/s. While this configuration isn't ideal—dual-channel setup would be preferable—a standalone 16GB DDR5 stick typically costs around $300, making the overall $899 price point compelling. Storage includes a 1TB NVMe SSD with room to add secondary M.2 drives or traditional 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drives.
The Slate undercuts Valve's Steam Machine on both price and performance. Steam Machine's base model with 512GB storage sells for $1,049, while this iBuyPower system delivers more horsepower at a lower cost. With minimal modifications, users could repurpose the Slate as a dedicated living room gaming setup.
Cooling relies on a single tower CPU cooler paired with four ARGB fans—three mounted at the front and one at the rear. The mid-tower chassis provides a glass side panel and additional fan mounting options, along with a 600W power supply. The package includes an entry-level gaming keyboard and mouse. The $899 price is temporary, so interested buyers should act quickly before the discount expires.
