Nintendo Launches Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Special Edition at $519.99
Nintendo revealed its first custom Switch 2 hardware during a major Direct presentation, featuring a golden and green design inspired by the Triforce symbol alongside matching Pro Controller and accessories.
During a significant Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2 era, the company unveiled the Ocarina of Time remake while also announcing its inaugural special-edition Switch 2 console. Branded as The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, the device carries a price tag of $519.99, with an identically styled Pro Controller available for $99.99. Both items are available for pre-order now and will ship on October 29.
Nintendo's history with Zelda-themed hardware stretches back two decades. The Game Boy Advance SP received a Zelda design in 2004 when The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap launched. The Wii U got Wind Waker HD treatment in 2013, followed by a Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED in 2023 and a Hyrule Edition Switch Lite the following year. This new Switch 2 marks the 12th piece of Zelda-branded gaming hardware the company has released across all platforms.
The original Switch received its first limited-edition variant within months of launch, but the Switch 2 has taken considerably longer to get this treatment. The console itself remains predominantly black with golden triangular accents on the rear. The Joy-Cons showcase a striking green colorway paired with a Tri-Force emblem on the left controller. The dock features a two-tone gold and black finish with prominent Tri-Force imagery on the front and hidden details on the back. Even the box includes textured foil cover art.
The accompanying Pro Controller mirrors the Joy-Con aesthetic with its green and gold palette, blending Triforce elements with a crest design. Priced at $100 on its own, a variant bundled with a subtly themed display stand costs $110. A $40 carrying case rounds out the accessory lineup, complete with Zelda artwork, a custom green microfiber cloth, and a screen protector.
These items commemorate the Zelda franchise's 40th anniversary, which occurred earlier in 2026. The special-edition console does not include any game and carries no connection to the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. Pre-orders for all merchandise are currently active, with delivery scheduled for October 29, 2026. The Ocarina of Time remake itself launches separately on November 19, 2026, at $60.
